• We all grew up with the taste of Knorr in Sunday stew, jollof rice, and the meals that bring everyone to the table. It’s the flavour that feels like home, and it’s been part of our lives for as long as we can remember.

On October 10th, 2025, Knorr brought that same spirit to life with Adekunle Gold and Victor Ehikhamenor at “Fuji Reignited”, a night that paid homage to Nigerian culture through food, music, and art at The Sphere in Lagos.

To celebrate Adekunle Gold’s new album Fuji, Knorr served meals inspired by his music and the culture that shaped it.

It was the perfect setup for what came next when Adekunle Gold took to the stage, performing songs from the new album, including Don Corleone, Coco Money, and Many Many People. He also took fans down memory lane with favourites like Ogaranya and Pick Up, filling the space with warmth, nostalgia, and joy. His performance captured the true spirit of the night, a celebration of sound, flavour, and culture.

Speaking on the collaboration, Damilola Dania, Food Demand Creation Lead, Unilever Nigeria Plc, said, “Knorr has always been part of our everyday lives, from our kitchens to our celebrations. This collaboration with Adekunle Gold and Victor Ehikhamenor was about celebrating the things that make us who we are: our food, our art, our music, and our culture.”

For Adekunle Gold, Fuji is a love letter to his roots. “Fuji is one of the Nigerian sounds I grew up on and fell in love with,” he shared. “Working with Knorr made this moment even more special because it feels personal. Growing up, I was always sent to buy Knorr Chicken cubes, and that memory stuck with me. So, when I say, “O dun bi Knorr chicken” in Don Corleone, it comes from a real place. This collaboration feels like coming full circle.”

Victor Ehikhamenor added his artistic touch to the celebration, creating a special artwork inspired by Adekunle Gold’s Fuji album and Knorr’s deep Nigerian heritage. Unveiled in an intimate gallery space, the piece reminds everyone that our culture lives on through sound, art, and the meals we share every day.Fuji Reignited was more than a night of food, music and art; it was a reminder that Knorr has always been part of Nigeria’s story and will continue to be part of its future. Because Knorr is not just in our food; it’s in our homes, our stories, and our culture.

  • First dates are always a gamble; you either hit it off or leave with a story so outrageous that your friends will never let you forget it. In Nigeria, where dating comes with a mix of cultural expectations, unspoken rules, and unexpected surprises, the chances of a first date turning into a comedy special are even higher. And let’s be honest, some “green flags” can make all the difference, like knowing your way around the kitchen (or at least making a culinary effort). Because, as Knorr’s #UnlockYourGreenFlag campaign reminds us, cooking skills can be a major win in the dating game! Click here to learn amazing recipes from Knorr.

From sharing ice cream to unexpected guests, these hilarious first-date stories will make you cringe, laugh, and maybe even feel a little better about your own dating misadventures.

The stingy king and his shared ice cream

A young lady on X (formerly called Twitter), shared her unbelievable first date experience with a man who checked all the red flag boxes. First, he argued about the cost of a Bolt ride. Then, he ordered a single cup of ice cream for both of them to share! As if that wasn’t bad enough, he later suggested they “watch Netflix and chill” at his place, making his real intentions clear. When she refused, he boldly asked, “What’s the worst that could happen? It’s just sex, and we’re adults.” Omo! 🚩🚩🚩 Needless to say, he was blocked faster than you can say “red flag.”

    The doggy bag hustler

A guy once took his date to a restaurant, and she barely touched her food, claiming she was full. When the waiter came to clear the table, she politely asked to pack her meal—to take home to her dog. He found it rather surprising and annoying but kept calm and continued their conversation… until the waiter returned, handing over the paper bag and excitedly mentioning she had also packed other people’s leftover food along with hers. The lady suddenly got pissed and started acting all funny. When confronted, she retorted that her dog doesn’t eat leftovers! Talk about a plot twist–well, we listen, we don’t judge.

    A hundred seasoning cubes

A Nigerian man took his date to his house after weeks of boasting about his cooking skills in an attempt to get her to come by his place. He promised her the best Nigerian Jollof rice she had ever had. As you would expect, she was excited and expectant. The day came, and everything seemed to be going well until he dished, and she took her first spoon. According to her report, the food tasted like he had added “a hundred seasoning cubes to a dish that was simply meant for two”, and that was the moment she knew Femi* was not the man for her. If only he had joined Knorr’s #UnlockYourGreenFlag challenge, perhaps he might have had better luck!

The date who brought their mom

One lady in her 30s met a man online who seemed perfect—handsome, funny, and charming. They spoke for weeks and finally decided to strike up a physical meeting. On the said date, she showed up at the restaurant they had decided on, only to find out her date had invited someone else: his mother. Apparently, she insisted on “meeting” the lady her son had been speaking with and spent the entire evening interrogating her as though she was there to apply for a job! Our lady friend did her best to play along, answering the questions as best as possible. However, as soon as the night was over, she promptly deleted the guy’s number and blocked him on all platforms. Harsh?? We don’t think so.

Got the wrong guy… Then he became the right one!

One woman’s unforgettable first date mishap proves that sometimes, love finds you in the most unexpected ways. Sharing her story on TikTok, she recalled meeting a man on a dating app four years ago. After days of on-and-off chats, they finally set a date, choosing a private venue for their first meeting. She arrived eager but slightly nervous, scanning the crowd until she spotted a young man dressed exactly as her date had described—yellow pants and a plain tee. Without hesitation, she waved. He waved back. Taking it as a sign, she confidently walked over and joined him at his table.

From the moment they started talking, the connection was instant. Conversation flowed effortlessly, and laughter came easy—so much so that when their actual dates showed up, the shocking realisation hit them simultaneously: they were never supposed to meet. Instead of panic or embarrassment, the moment dissolved into uncontrollable laughter.

Fast forward four years, and that accidental date is now her husband. Together, they have built a beautiful life—and have a daughter to show for it.

First dates can indeed be unpredictable; yet one thing is certain: food plays a major role in successful dating stories and can make or break a first impression. Knorr’s #UnlockYourGreenFlag campaign reminds singles that knowing how to cook (or at least trying) is a major green flag! So, if you want to avoid being the subject of a “worst date ever” story, consider brushing up on your cooking skills. Who knows? The way to someone’s heart might be through an appropriately seasoned plate of Nigerian smoky Jollof rice!

  • Cooking has long been a cherished tradition in Nigerian households, bringing people together over hearty meals and shared experiences. It is a practice that transcends generations, tying people together through the simple yet profound act of sharing food.

A recent survey among Nigerians reveals that 85% of singles aged 18-35 view cooking as a major “green flag” in a potential partner. Even more compelling, 90% agree that someone willing to learn cooking is equally attractive. Food, it seems, is not just a means to the stomach but also a direct route to the heart. The survey found that 95% of respondents believe cooking shows a person’s ability to care for others, with 90% stating that a partner’s hygiene and cleanliness during and after cooking were equally important.

In a country where soups, stews and making Jollof are an art, with an expansive range of soups spanning local classics like ogbono, edikaikong, egusi, and efo riro, to name only a few, it is no surprise that 90% of the respondents agreed that they saw partners who could make Jollof rice and multiple soups as very attractive. Half of the survey participants admitted to cooking at least once to impress a love interest, with 90% of them having done it multiple times. However, it was also found that inviting someone over for a home-cooked meal on the first date might be a bit much for Nigerians, with only 20% comfortable with the idea. Instead, the third date seems to be the sweet spot for this romantic gesture.

To help singles level up their dating game, Knorr is sparking vibes in the kitchen and launching #UnlockYourGreenFlag, a new campaign that champions the power of cooking to bring singles together. As we navigate red flags, cooking is one dating ‘green flag’ that can be relied on – that’s why Knorr is encouraging singles to show off their cooking interests by adding it to their dating profiles.

“Cooking not only helps people connect, but it also offers an opportunity to express in creativity and care,” said Damilola Dania, Category Manager, Nutrition, Unilever West Africa. “As your wingman in the kitchen, Knorr is on a mission to tell the world just how powerful cooking can be, especially for successful relationships. Regardless of whether you are skilled or not, cooking for someone is a great way to demonstrate your thoughtfulness and care for others.”

“Our research shows that something as simple as adding cooking as an interest or skill on your dating profile can be enough to win over a potential suitor. After all, food is the universal language of love, so it makes sense that something so simple is enough to stir up some passion. So, if you’re looking for love – or just a taste tester for your latest recipe- try levelling up your game by adding cooking to your dating profile.”

Knorr is also partnering with the eativists, individuals who lend their voice to the brand’s belief that good food and healthy eating can be a force for personal and global change to provide tips and hacks that will help singles spice things up both in the kitchen and in their love lives. From tutorials on preparing classic Nigerian dishes like jollof rice, to advice on planning the perfect romantic dinner, the campaign promises to inspire confidence in the kitchen.

  • The Christmas in Lagos movie premiere wasn’t just another night of glitz and glam—it was a celebration of tasty nutrition, community, and the spirit of sharing good moments. As part of its ‘Share the Good’ campaign, Knorr took centre stage at this star-studded event by extending ‘good’ this festive season, one plate of good Jollof at a time, making it truly unforgettable. Because, let’s be honest, there’s No Christmas in Lagos without Jollof, and no good Jollof without Knorr!

The premiere brought together Lagos’ brightest stars and festive enthusiasts for an evening of cinematic brilliance. But what elevated this event to a truly memorable experience was Knorr’s presence. From the red carpet to the after-party, Knorr served as a reminder of the joy of sharing a delicious meal with loved ones during the festive season.

This festive season, Knorr continues to inspire Nigerians to ‘Share the Good’ one delicious meal at a time. And with the Christmas in Lagos movie premiere, they’ve shown how magical the combination of food, film, and festivity can be. So, whether you’re whipping up a pot of Jollof or enjoying the warmth of family and friends, remember: No Christmas in Lagos without Jollof, no good Jollof without Knorr.

  • In this interview with Mariam “Mory CocoBakre, the popular creative and influencer, she explores her passion for cooking and her best recipes, detailing the best methods that guarantee great results. She also touches on her role as a Knorr Eativist and how that influences her dietary decisions. Join us as we peek into her mind as a Knorr Eativist.

Can you share a creative and healthy recipe that your family loves, and how did you come up with it?

Mory Coco: I wouldn’t call it a sweet treat, but I definitely love a good bowl of spicy tomato-based spaghetti! This dish was born from my desire to find a satisfying and healthy way to indulge my cravings.  It hits all the right notes—fresh tomatoes cooked into a rich sauce with just the right amount of heat and perfectly cooked spaghetti, waiting to be topped with my favourite mix of veggies—bell peppers, carrots, and sometimes even spinach adds essential nutrients and a satisfying crunch.  This meal is a perfect example of how healthy eating doesn’t have to be bland!

Can you share a creative and healthy recipe your family loves?

Mory Coco: A staple in our household is turkey pepper soup with boiled plantains. It’s incredibly easy to make, undeniably healthy, and bursting with flavour that everyone enjoys. You begin by sautéing aromatic ingredients like garlic, onion, and ginger. Chopped turkey is added and allowed to release its natural juices, further deepening the flavor profile.  Next, add fresh habanero peppers and herbs and spices like rosemary and thyme.  Add enough water to create a satisfying broth, followed by pepper soup spice mix, a Knorr seasoning cube, and a sprinkle of salt for balance.  It’s ready to be enjoyed after simmering until the turkey reaches your desired tenderness!  Then serve with a side of boiled plantains.

As a Knorr Eativist, what’s your favourite healthy ingredient swap in traditional recipes to make it fun and enticing?

Mory Coco:  As a Knorr Eativist, I’m passionate about finding healthy swaps that don’t compromise taste! There’s a terrible misconception that healthy meals can’t taste good, and that’s definitely not true.  For instance, when making jollof rice, I ditch the regular vegetable oil and swap it for olive oil. I sometimes go even further by using herb-infused olive oil with notes of rosemary, thyme, garlic, and chillies. This simple switch adds complexity and a delightful nutritional boost, making every bite delicious and good for you!  It’s a perfect example of how small changes can impact healthy and flavorful cooking.

  • Over the holidays, communities in Lagos, Abuja, Asaba, Enugu, and Port Harcourt all witnessed one of the most heartwarming displays of gratitude and recognition as Knorr’s ‘Share The Good’ Campaign brought joy to the ones who least expected it, servicemen.

The campaign focused on those who couldn’t go home for the holidays because of work – the public servants who dedicated their lives to serving the people, proving that not all heroes wear capes, a lot wear uniforms. Medical Staff, Traffic Wardens, Road Sweepers, the Nigerian Police Force, Neighborhood Watch, the Federal Road Safety Commission, Uniformed security, and Civil Defense Officers across the five cities were given special Knorr gift boxes. The boxes contained nutritious dishes, Knorr seasonings, and other items.

There’s no better feeling than being recognised for hard work and Knorr took that to a whole new level by choosing the exciting route of honouring those who couldn’t enjoy the luxury of spending Christmas day with their families and putting a smile on their faces.

The campaign not only spread joy to those in service but also helped build a sense of community and togetherness in these cities. Knorr’s commitment to encouraging a culture of nutritious meals that bring people together was evident in the meals it gifted. The campaign’s success stands as a testament to the brand’s dedication to making a positive impact in the lives of everyone.

  • The ones who just came to eat

They heard “Jollof” and just knew they had to be there. If food runs out at the festival, they’re most likely behind it.

The ones that came to look for love

It’s true when they say the way to some people’s hearts is through their stomach. They came for the food, but they also came to find someone who likes food just as much as they do.

    Jollof historians

You’re just there to eat and have a good time, but these people want to explain the story of how Jollof was first created in Senegal in the 14th century. Their stories are nice but these people will distract you. Focus on the food.

    Content creators

Even though no one should ever miss a Jollof festival for anything, it happens sometimes. That’s where the content creators come in. They’ll film everything for those who missed out.

    Owambe gatecrashers

These guys will mistake the festival for an owambe and show up. But at least they’ll bring the owambe energy with them.

    The cooks

These ones will swear they can cook Jollof rice that’ll make you emotional. They might not be wrong sha, especially if they use great seasoning like Knorr.

    The Knorr itself

What’s a good plate of Jollof without the best seasoning? Knorr knows this, so they’re hosting the Knorr Jollof Fest to celebrate food culture. Knorr is encouraging people to Eat for Good by incorporating more healthy options like veggies into their foods, so come ready to eat. There’ll be lots of food from different chefs, lots of games, and a lot of fun to be had. If you know you like food, you definitely want to be there.

It’s happening on July 23, 2023, at Muri Okunola Park, Lagos. To register for the event, just visit the Jollof Fest website, and make sure you show up.
