• In a video posted on the morning of Monday, October 21,  social media personality, Vincent Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, alleged that Socialite, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky had been arrested by Nigerian Immigration as he attempted to cross the Seme border into the Benin Republic. A few hours later, TVCNews confirmed the development through “an authoritative source in the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS). Does her arrest have anything to do with the Investigation against her? Here’s all there is to know.

    Released from jail

Before her arrest this morning, Bobrisky had already been arrested in April for mutilating the Naira and spent 6 months in jail for it. After she was released in August though, there were speculations about her “healthy physical appearance.”

On September 24, 2024, VeryDarkMan released a bombshell by alleging Bobrisky did not serve her six-month sentence inside the four walls of a prison. To support his claims, VeryDarkMan released an alleged voice recording of Bobrisky saying she made her money laundry case go away by giving the EFCC a ₦15 million bribe. The voice in the recording also claimed that human rights lawyer and activist, Femi Falana and his son, Folarin Falana (Falz) offered legal advice that led to the clearing of Bobrisky’s name.

Because of the popularity of everyone involved, as well as the back and forth between Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan, the allegation generated so much attention, that Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, set up an Investigative Panel to look into the allegations on September 30, 2024.

    Not guilty

Reading the results of the investigations today, the panel revealed that Bobrisky actually served her six-month sentence inside of jail.

“The panel did not find any evidence thus far that suggested that Mr. Okuneye slept outside the custodial center during the period of his imprisonment, which was from 12th April 2024 to 5th August 2024, which is a six-month correctional sentence with the usual remission applicable.”

    Still guilty, sort of

Even though the panel cleared the major allegation against Bobrisky, they found that she received special treatment while she served out her sentence. The privileges she was said to have enjoyed are:

    1. Furnished single cell
    2. Humidifier
    3. Visits from her family and friends whenever she wanted
    4. Self-feeding
    5. Inmates assigned to run errands for her
    6. Access to a television, fridge, and possibly her phone.

    More Investigation

The investigative panel thinks that Bobriskys financial status, the uniqueness of her situation, and behaviour, may have contributed to the privileges she enjoyed in prison, but these are just thoughts. To prove these assumptions, they have decided to conduct further investigations that are looking to answer the following questions

    1. Did the lack of guidelines in handling unique cases like Bobrisky’s contribute to the preferential treatment he got?
    2. Were the privileges granted to her due to financial motives?
    3. Did she get these privileges because of corrupt practices by correctional officers?

    Why was Bobrisky arrested?

At the moment, NIS has not released any statement confirming it arrested Bobrisky or explaining why it did.

    This is a developing story.

  • The back-and-forth about unpaid debts between social media user VeryDarkMan and socialite Bobrisky has turned into a messy situation that exposed that Bobrisky, who was recently released from prison for naira devaluation, may not have in fact served time in prison.

The issue has since developed into claims of corruption against the Nigerian Correctional Centre, the EFCC, the prison and Justice system, Bobrisky, and her lawyers. This is everything you need to know about the case.

    VDM’s accusation

On September 24, 2024, viral social media user Vincent Martins “VeryDarkMan” Otse took to the internet to accuse Idris “Bobrisky” Okuneye of illegally paying the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) the sum of ₦15 million to waive off his money laundering case.

If you remember, in April 2024, Bobrisky was sentenced to six months imprisonment for money mutilation. However, in the video, VDM claimed that Bobrisky didn’t spend his six-month jail term in prison. To corroborate his allegations, VDM shared a voice call recording of someone he said is Bobrisky talking about the details of what happened. In the recording, the person explained how the EFCC collected a ₦15 million bribe to clear the money laundering cases.

In the recording, the names of popular lawyer and human rights activist Femi Falana and his son Folarin “Falz” Falana also came up. The person in the recording spoke about how Falz reached out to Bobrisky to offer legal advice and assured her that her name could be cleared with a pardon.

    EFCC’s response

On the night of September 24, 2024, the EFCC boss, Ola Olukayode, responded to the allegations by ordering an immediate investigation. Furthermore, Olukayode has invited VDM and Bobrisky to the Commission’s Lagos office as part of an investigation into the matter. He promised that the findings would be provided to the public.

Abubakar Umar, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, noted that they’re investigating the situation as well.

    Bobrisky’s response

On September 25, 2024, Bobrisky addressed the allegations in a Facebook post. She denied the alleged bribery, called the viral call recording “fake”, and stated that she served her six-month prison term at Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

    The Falanas’ response

On September 26, 2024, Falz posted a legal document that advised VDM to retract his statements against him and Femi Falana and apologise on his Instagram account in 24 hours.

In less than 24 hours, VDM released another video to address Falz. VDM stated he had a phone call with Falz but the artiste didn’t deny that the recording is real. The call ended on the note that they’d see each other in court when the case is opened.

    This is a developing story.

  • Idris Okuneye AKA Bobrisky, a popular Nigerian socialite, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, for mutilating some naira notes. On April 12, 2024, a Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced her to six months in jail without the option of a fine.

    What was her crime?

The EFCC spokesman, Mr Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrest and stated that Bobrisky was arrested on four different counts to which she pleaded guilty. During the judgment, Justice Abimbola Awogboro mentioned that Naira mutilation has become a menace that’s damaging the country’s image. Bobrisky’s sentence was to make an example of how Naira Abuse will be treated going forward

    But is the sentence fair?

Naira Abuse has long been a criminal offence in Nigeria, but spraying naira notes when dancing has also been a part of the Nigerian culture for ages; this law hasn’t seen much enforcement in the past. Before Bobrisky, on February 1, 2023, the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) arrested Nigerian actress, Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, after a video of her spraying and stepping on the new Naira notes circulated on the internet. Just like Bobrisky, she bagged six months of imprisonment.

According to the 2007 CBN Act, the punishment for naira abuse — which includes spraying, stamping, engraving, selling and mutilation — is a fine of ₦50,000 or six months imprisonment. For a first-time offender, members of the public believe that the sentence with no option of a fine was made out of bias, but Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin was also sentenced with the only difference being that she got the option, of a fine because she was a first-time offender who pled guilty. She was eventually granted bail on February 15 2024, but for Bobrisky the case is not the same.

Although Bobrisky is also a first-time offender and has pled guilty with a promise to change and use her platform to educate people about the naira abuse, she wasn’t granted bail. This begs to question if there is some sort of bias behind the decisions of the court.

    When did this one start?

The police have started taking Naira Abuse more seriously, rounding up more offenders in the last several months than they ever have before. One Simon Idio was arrested on February 12, 2024, for selling the naira. Who knows what might come next?

  • “A person who does not know where his mates are succeeding will just die for nothing.” African proverb (and if it’s not African, take it like that).

While you are here crying out of poverty, people are cashing out seriously with very little work. How? By tattooing the face of a celebrity on their bodies!

Oh please don’t be scared. Me I know how you can do it that you will cash out.

    Let me teach you.

    a. Identify the celebrity that will be your cash machine.

    Important qualities to look for:

    b. Find those ones that are very active on social media. Any small matter, they chook mouth.

If you pick someone like Genevieve Nnaji, I’m sorry, but you have just wasted a portion of your body that you cannot get back.

    c. Target Yoruba socialites (Don’t make me mention anybody’s name, plis), Yoruba Nollywood actors and actresses. You know, find your way into that circle.

    d. You can also target politicians or Nigeria as a whole. You may not get money oh, but at least you will have donated your body to a worthless cause.

    Exhibit 1.
Exhibit 2. Imagine carrying such a problematic coat of arms of your body forever. Hmm. It will take God’s intervention to separate you from jagajaga.

But enough of this shalaye. HOW DO YOU CASH OUT FROM YOUR TATTOOS??

Word on the street is that a celebrity tattoo can fetch you between N100K to N1m. Imagine that. ONE MILLION NAIRA. Just to do this?

Bobrisky Finally Transfers N1 Million To Lady Who Tattooed His Face On Her Back

    Best believe I’ll cover myself completely in like 68 tattoos. N1m x 68 = N68m. That is, N68,000,000.

Me, after I draw the tattoos.

But your village people can manifest at that time sha. And things can go wrong for you, just like it did for my madam here.

Apparently, she got a tattoo of Bobrisky. While she was waiting for cashout so she can go and ball, her father disowned her. As if her condition could not get even poorer, Bobrisky did not acknowledge her.

    Alexa, play ‘Problem.’

But her guardian angel did not overdose on Fufu. Bobrisky finally responded.

    Reaction
And just like that, my good sis is a millionaire.

Another good example is my homegirl, MandyKiss, who tattooed Naira Marley on her leg and became an ‘internet sensation’.

How so? Naira Marley followed her back on Instagram! If that is not enough clout, then I don’t know what it is.

So, there you have it. Pick your target and tattoo away.

  • Bobrisky, Nigerian transgender and self proclaimed Nigerian barbie, has been declared to be a viral disease by the Federal Government.

According to Otunba Segun Runsewe, the Director-General of National Centre for Arts and Culture, Bobrisky is worse than the Ebola Virus and could be carrying infections that would affect any woman that shares a public toilet with Bobrisky.

This statement is coming from the same person who said Bobrisky is a national disgrace and threatened to deal with her.

Apparently, Otunba Segun Runsewe is more serious than we thought. Now, the next phase of his plans for Bobrisky is to warn tourists off.

But, I have got some questions about this feud that has been brewing for the past months.

    • Considering that the Ebola Virus was an epidemic disease that killed more than 11,000 people during its outbreak in 2014-2016 and we’ve yet to hear that Bobrisky killed anyone, isn’t that statement a bit presumptuous?
    • Isn’t this total focus on Bobrisky by Otunba Segun Runsewe a teeny weeny bit insensitive to aspects of arts, culture and tourism that are being left ignored?
    • Is Bobrisky really the main problem that Nigeria has right now?
    • Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju has been known as Bobrisky for years, with no qualms, why is she suddenly being seriously tagged person non grata?

    My conclusion:

There’s a lot to turn tourists away from visiting Nigeria- and it’s not Bobrisky.

Most of the foreigners being warned off Bobrisky are actually used to mingling with transgenders, crossdressers and other folks of the LBTQ community. So who exactly are you warning off, Otunba Segun Runsewe?

Yes, we know that the Same-Sex Prohibition Act in Nigeria criminalizes any gay marriage and any persons found guilty will be jailed for 14 years. But, so far, Bobrisky has yet to say she is homosexual or married to someone of the same gender.

Furthermore, if the FG can wage war on homosexuality, using Bobrisky as a scapegoat, can they also direct that same energy to ridding the country of the insecurity and economical issues?
