• This guy doesn’t call himself Falz the Bahd guy for nothing.

First of all, he’s ridiculously funny.

Secondly, he’s a good actor and is the only Nigerian rapper with an AMCVA award.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IUhG4l82V0

    He’s fine AF.

He has made his own fashion statement with his signature sunglasses.

As a brand ambassador, he totally slays adverts without having any chill.

And finally, he just got nominated for the Best New International Act at the BET Awards.

To vote for him, simply repost this photo on Instagram using #PickFALZ. Good-luck to Falz on this one and hope he brings the award home!

  • Tiwa Savage is going  international in her new deal with Roc Nation. The rumors started flying in May about her possible record deal with Jay Z’s Roc Nation.

The hype got bigger when popular entertainment consultant and A&R, Bizzle Osikoya, shared a post about Jay Z’s interest in Tiwa’s music catalogue.

And guess what, Tiwa Savage and Mavin Records Boss, Don Jazzy, are currently in New York and even shared pictures of their meeting with Jay Z.

She’s set to finalise her deal with Roc Nation and that means she’ll be rubbing shoulders with artistes like Rihanna and DJ Khaled.

It’s surprising to note Don Jazzy’s participation in this deal despite his discomfort with D’banj’s deal with G.O.O.D Music in 2012. It’s hard to forget how that drama led to the split-up of the great Mo’Hits records.

This deal is major and shows that the only way for Nigerian music is up. Congratulations to Tiwa and we anticipate even more awesome music from here!

  • Aderonke Ariyo who goes by her stage name, DJ Soupamodel, has been selected as a governor for the 2016 Grammy awards.

Every year, The Recording Academy selects a group of artistes and producers who will be responsible for deciding how the Grammy Awards will run. And this year, Ronke sits on the Washington DC chapter of the board.

Ronke has worked with local and international artistes including Tiwa Savage, Jason Derulo and was a Grammy DJ in 2013.

Currently, she is the CEO of a music publishing and licensing company, Music BLVD. It’s impressive that African women in the entertainment industry are finally getting acknowledged especially in the international scenes.

    A massive congratulations to Ronke!

  • Do you remember this awesome classic by Seyi Sodimu? This groovy song probably introduced many of us into the world of Nigerian hiphop.

But guess what, many years after blessing us with this classic, Seyi decided to do a remix and it features American R&B singer, K. Michelle.

And yes, it comes with a brand new video which was shot in Atlanta by Sesan Ogunro of Film Factory, watch it below.

Although some people aren’t really feeling it.

    https://twitter.com/Morenikeeee_/status/737308573605171200

And think he shouldn’t have done a remix.

Seyi Sodimu, who founded the independent label Goodlife Entertainment in 2001, is working on his fourth album, which is due for release later this year under the label.

It looks like he’s trying to make a comeback into the Nigerian music industry. We wish him good luck with that!

  • After making Nigerians throw the hottest Shoki on the dance floor with his hit Single, Woju, Kiss Daniel only saw it fit to drop his debut album in May 2016.

Surprisingly, his new album, New Era, is charting at number 8 on the Billboard World Album Chart, less than 2 weeks after it dropped.

Pretty impressive! Considering the fact that he took the risk of not featuring any major artists on the album.

The chart, which is a weekly ranking of top-selling world music albums implies that Kiss Daniel’s album is doing very well within and outside the country.

Congratulations to Kiss Daniel on this achievement! We hope the album makes it to the big charts sha!

  • What happens when Naija music gets a Middle Eastern twist to it?

A Moroccan parody channel, Barbapappa shared videos of a group that make the coolest remixes of Naija songs.

To mix things up the guys sing in Darija, which is a Moroccan derivation of Arabic, and also use Gnawi instruments to modify the beat of the songs. We have compiled some of their videos but you can find more on Barbapappa’s Facebook and Youtube pages.

Their version of P Square’s “Shekini” titled “Hek Lili Nifi”.

Their own version of Runtown’s “Gallardo” called “Wili wili wili”.

These Moroccan guys also created a remix of South African artist, Mafikizolo’s “Khona” parodied as “Khouna kijak lfoul”.

  • Nigerians and Africans in general are Kings of dance and groovy music. Here are 7 times Nigerian music gained note worthy international exposure:

    1. When D’banj showed the world that Nigerian music can be jammed to, by any and everybody, with his Oliver Twist song.

The song topped UK music charts in 2012 and is still relevant till date.

    2. In 2013, three African ladies, CEO dancers, took Nigerian dance to the UK at the Britain’s got talent competition.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blC90s8axy8

    3. When Alicia keys and Swizz Beatz grooved to Wizkid’s Ojuelegba in 2015.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/5-r_daSDPF/
    Cool vibes.

    4. When Wizkid and Chris Brown performed together in South Africa in 2015.

    Showing us serious awesomeness.

    5. When Jermaine Jackson commended P-Square for their Micheal Jackson tribute song, Personally.

    6. Missy Elliot really felt the Shoki dance and just had to do it in her comeback song of 2015.

    Ahh shoki!

    7. And when her dancers choreographed to Olamide’s Shakitibobo.

We hope Nigerian artists get inspired and we look forward to more internationally exposed Nigerian songs.
