• Can you believe it’s been almost a year since Big Brother: Shine Ya Eye ended? Please, where is time running to? The reunion show is back with sequin gowns, interesting lace wigs and pointlessly intense drama. But since it’s been a while (and the last housemates were dull), I’ve decided to jog your memory with some of the hot gist from last year, so you’re not lost when they start throwing hands or water.

    1. Angel and Cross’ friends with small benefits

These two kept stressing the audience out. Even though they were swallowing each other’s tongues up and down, they kept telling everyone they were just friends. Sorry dears, but that’s not how people do this friendship thing where I’m from. The best part of their “friendship” is how they constantly stood up for each other. Who can forget the time Angel comforted Cross after Nini called him an olodo? Sweet.

    2. Nollywood lover boys had nothing on Saga

When it comes to love, no Old Nollywood lover boy comes close to Saga. Ramsey Noah, Emeka Ike and Desmond Elliot probably looked at him last year and thought, “Guy, it’s enough now.” Remember when Big Brother kidnapped Nini and Saga looked like he was about to die? This man had just met this girl, but I’m sure he’d have taken a bullet for her if it came to it.

    3. If you have a relationship outside, forget it when you come into the house

Once again, these housemates reminded us that the moment you step into the house, any love you have outside is automatically placed on pause. Yes, Saskay and Jaypaul, we’re looking at both of you. Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten Miracle and Nina, so you’ll be fine.

    4. Liquorose came to dance, and nothing else

Everyone comes into the Big Brother house with a plan of how they intend to win all the money for themselves, but my girl Liquorose came to dance, and I respect that. Yes, we all know she had her thing with Emmanuel, but we know her step game was the highlight of her time on the show. And before you come for her, look how far she went on the show. I stan a Maltina Dance-All queen.

    5. Pere and his frustrating alpha male character

No one displayed toxic energy like Pere, not even Sammie. This man walked around that house like he was everyone’s daddy, and once he honked at the gate, everyone needed to scatter. From constantly harassing Whitemoney to just being a dick to everyone but Maria, Pere was the villain we didn’t know we needed. When he needed to be, he was still a stand-up guy, especially when he consoled Saga when Mr. Loverboy thought rapture had taken Nini from the house.

    6. Maria was a focused queen with a sprinkle of bad vibes

Even though she was evicted earlier than I expected, Maria left an indelible impression on everyone. Maybe it’s the fact that Nigerians gravitate towards strange accents, either way, Maria was a fan fave. Her back and forth relationship with Pere was stressful but entertaining. It was also nice to see a female housemate who didn’t care about being liked. That is until she decided to slut-shame Angel like we’re in the 1950s. I love Maria, but she gave us girl boss, gate keep, Gal Gadot.

    7. Nothing has changed; Nigerians still like to vote out of pity

After multiple seasons of Big Brother and several winners, one thing remains constant: as long as you can make Nigerians pity you, they will vote for you like crazy. We saw it happen with Efe, Laycon, and Whitemoney. It’s the strategy that has been tried and tested. Even Bubu got sympathy votes in 2015, so why is anyone surprised?

  • The last BBNaija Saturday Night Party was unforgettable. The evicted housemates returned to party with the finalists one last time, and they all gave us funny and sweet moments that we will remember for a long time.

    1. First of all, WhiteMoney took time to reflect.

He was probably thinking about all the cooking he would miss once he leaves the show. If only he knew he was going to secure the bag in a major way.

    2. Liquorose was determined to give us a final show.

We stan a spirited queen who cares about the audience. She dropped her cup of Smirnoff and said, “You people will not forget my name.” Yes, queen!

    3. Emmanuel and Angel took charge of the dance floor.

Angel ruled the dance floor and danced without a care. It was as if she was determined that the final party of the show must not end anyhow, and we love her for it.

    4. Emmanuel released himself from Liquorose and really gave us a show.

Mans said, “If this is my last party in this house, I better give you dance moves that will keep you all talking.” He created a world of his own and invited the audience to be a part of it. Whew.

    5. Maria, Arin, Boma, Yousef and Niyi: It’s the reunion before THE Reunion

When the reunion happens next year, there’ll probably be fights and tea to spill, but now, the housemates are reunited and they are all sipping their Smirnoff and enjoying the vibe.

    6. Even Niyi was rocking Maria.

Wonders shall never end. Niyi that was a saint in the house. What a wawu. This is the level of carefree enjoyment

    7. Look at KayVee!

KayVee, Nini, Saskay and Niyi all look like cute siblings. Can’t wait for them to be cast in a TV show. Are you concerned about seeing Nini alone without Saga? Don’t worry, he’s in the next picture.

    8. Saga, Tega, Jackie B, Princess, and Saskay.

See how they are all in a world of their own.

    9. In all of this, JMK was more concerned about staying pretty and sipping her drink.

A babe, through and through. And look how she brought other ladies to share the Smirnoff with her. A queen who knows how to create her own fun world and invite others into it.

  • As the show grinds to an end, we couldn’t help but reminisce on some of the housemates we met earlier in the show. Perhaps if they were still in the house we may have gotten a little more spice.

Here’s a list of 5 evicted housemates that definitely left the show too early.

    1. Arin

For the first time on the show, we got to see a feminist who proudly wore the tag and went on a crusade to re-orientate as many other housemates as possible on Feminism. Arin didn’t stay too long in the house but before she left she built beautiful connections with other housemates like Angel, Nini, and Cross. She also established herself as an unshakeable girl’s girl and the resident therapist. Her no-nonsense approach to patriarchy and misogyny was definitely a vibe the show needed.

    2. Beatrice

Beatrice may have been slow in unveiling her personality but the sneak peek she gave us before she got evicted shows that we would have been in for some multi-dimensional drama. Remember the kiss she had with Pere and how worked up it got Maria? Let’s also not forget the fight she had with Liquorose. Beatrice had spice to give, the viewers were just not patient enough.

    3. JMK

    zikoko- evicted housemates

If JMK was still in the house 2 plot twists are for sure; she would have given Queen and Jackie B a proper run for Whitemoney’s attention. Whitemoney would have probably leaped into a ship with her because if we remember correctly (and we do) he was quite persuasive in the friends with benefit discussion he had with her. But you people got her evicted with your pauper votes and now Mazi has missed out on the possible love of his life. We would have seen the coolest sismance between her and Angel.

    4. Maria

    zikoko - evicted housemates

Maria may have gotten on our collective nerves but there’s no denying that she brought a fire to the show that was visibly absent after she left. Her love/hate thing with Pere was an entire storyline on its own. She got Pere so deep in his feelings that after she left, the general made it a point to talk about her at least 9 times every day. And we got less drama, fewer fights, and more kumbaya sessions. But we don’t watch BBNaija for love and light, do we?

    5. Honourable mention; Yerins

Imagine Yerins and Pere in a fight. All that comes up are scenes where Yerins uses his polymath brain to hypnotize Pere’s military brain and Whitemoney comes to settle the issue and gets hypnotized too. Mad stuff! But now we’ll never know because the resident polymath got evicted too soon.

Which other of the evicted housemates do you think would have brought more spice to the show? Tell us in the comments.
