Quick-fire camera flashes, hot stilettos and distinct music characterized the cool ambience at the venue of Desperados’ celebrity influencer showcase. The beer brand, which was first launched in Nigeria last December is known to be the charm of celebrities who dared to stand out from the crowd. It was no surprise that Mercy Eke, Timini Egbuson, DJ Obi and Poco Lee were ushered in at an exclusive unveil party recently which doubled as an evening of exciting activities. The fist-bumping guests arrived in trickles, clad in masks, and made their way to the seats that radiated effortless elegance.

Each of the influencers, celebrated for their unconventional personalities, were identified as the perfect match for Desperados, embodying traits ranging from daring, to eccentric and free-thinking – all integral aspects of the brand’s persona.

Media personality Mercy Eke, first shot to the limelight during the Big Brother Naija (BBN) Season 4. Being front and centre of the majority of the highlight reels, the Desperados influencer inspired many with her maverick personality which eventually earned her the plaudit of being the first female BBN winner. Not only was she a dogged character on screen, but also one off it as she failed at the audition stages four times before eventually emerging as a contestant and later, a winner.

Mercy Eke is joined by Timini Egbuson, an award-winning actor whose meteoric rise in the industry was an expectation among many. A trip to the actor’s social media pages reveal his unique personality and style, with high end and high street brands forming an enviable wardrobe selection designed to showcase his good looks and bold tattoos stretched across his clavicle and his right arm. The actor’s rise is no surprising – impressing movie buffs with his outstanding performances on television and the movie scene. In 2020, he won the Best Actor in a Drama (Movie/TV series) at the African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for his stellar performance in the movie “Elevator Baby.’’

DJ Obi, born Obinna Levi Ajuonama, embraced disc-jockeying as a full-time career after studying media, broadcasting and communications at Worcester State University, USA. His love for the music made him stand out amongst his peers, fetching him recognition such as winning the Best World DJ at the 2011 Nigeria Entertainment Awards and being nominated for the 2016 edition of The Future Awards Africa Prize for Creative Professional. Known for his flamboyant style behind the turntables, the reggae-loving DJ made news in global media in 2016 when he attempted to break the world record for the longest DJ set with a 10-day performance. His incredible attempt lasted 230 hours, making him a Guinness World Record holder.

Poco Lee, who started his career as a street dancer, is one of the performers at the forefront of Nigerian street music. Now one of the most sought-after dancers, this young graduate of Microbiology stepped up his game by winning the Best Dancer in 2019 at the Naija Hype Award.

The ultimate ‘life of the party,’ these influencers have collectively made a solid impression with their art of amplifying the good life with their stunning energy and persona.
