Okay, so picture this, you walk into a room expecting a cute brunch about motherhood. You leave questioning your whole financial life, texting your mum, AND plotting a retirement plan before your toddler hits primary school. That’s what happened at The Mum Fund, and baby, we’re not the same anymore.

Organised by Feyi Bello (Swaddle Queen) and Ibi Ibru (Money Fairy Godmother), From Nappies to Net Worth wasn’t your regular “let’s talk mommy guilt and call it a day” kind of event. Nope. This vulnerability meets vision boards. And guess what? Mothers brought their mothers. Husbands came too. Even the baby bump crew showed up.

And then there was Mrs. Adenike Ogunlesi. The woman has raised kids AND raised a billion-naira business, and she did it in heels. When she talked about seasons of motherhood and never forgetting who you are, you could hear sniffles. Including mine. But it didn’t stop there. Toyin Adesanya gave us real talk about managing wealth as a family, not just stashing money in a joint account and hoping for the best. At some point, someone asked about protecting your kids’ future, and I swear, the energy in the room became spiritual. It was like healing money trauma in real time.

Oh, and the lineup was a total power move. Speakers like Nela Duke-Ekpenyong, Ore Runsewe-Lawani, and Grace Ladoja MBE each brought their own spin on legacy, purpose, and wealth. Guests such as Dr. Omobola Johnson, Mrs. Yewande Zaccheaus, Mrs. Ibukun Awosika also added depth just by being in the room. If you didn’t feel inspired, you weren’t paying attention.

And then came the part that made me cry,Feyi and Ibi’s parents and husbands were in the audience. Yes, you read that right. The support system was live and in the flesh. One woman said, “I’ve never seen a Nigerian man sit in a finance panel about motherhood before.” And honestly? Same.

Also, shout out to the sponsors because they didn’t just slap their logos on the backdrop and bounce. Bamboo, Axa Mansard, Hatu Properties, and co. brought real value. Like “here’s how to buy your first stock” and “here’s how to put your baby in a trust fund” type vibes. We stan a capitalist revolution with heart

So, if you think talking about money is boring, think again. The Mum Fund made wealth sexy, strategic, and deeply African.

And next time you’re doubting yourself because you’re “just a mum”? Remember this: Soft life and smart money can exist in the same sentence.
