On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the Lagos State Police announced that Pastor Paul Adefarasin, founder of House on the Rock Church, had “turned himself in” following a viral video in which he appeared to point what looked like a firearm at a content creator.
In the video, YL TheCarGuy, a content creator who posts Nigerians driving luxury cars, recorded Pastor Adefarasin’s car, a 2024 Range Rover Autobiography. The pastor then rolled down his window, asked the creator to stop, and appeared to be holding what looked like a firearm.

After the video was posted, he faced immediate backlash on social media.
Here is a complete timeline of everything that has happened so far:
June 6, 2025: YL TheCarGuy Posts Video
On June 6, YL TheCarGuy posted a video to his 35.6k TikTok followers. In the now-viral clip, Pastor Paul Adefarasin rolls down his window and tells the creator he doesn’t like that. But in his right hand, he appears to be holding what looks like a firearm. The creator apologised, and the pastor drove away.
The video was posted with the caption “Me move on God,” and it immediately sparked backlash. Many criticised the pastor for allegedly brandishing a firearm and for telling the creator to stop recording, despite being in a public space.
June 7, 2025: Pastor Paul Adefarasin Responds
On June 7, Pastor Adefarasin took to X (formerly Twitter) to directly address the situation. He confirmed that he was the person in the viral video but firmly denied holding a firearm.
“You might be aware of a video which has been circulating on social media showing me in what some have misunderstood as brandishing a firearm,” he wrote. “I want to assure you — that was certainly not a firearm, and at no point did I point such at anyone.”
He also acknowledged the concern the clip may have caused and promised to briefly address it the next day, during Sunday’s service. “We understand the concern that this accusation may have caused, and we will speak briefly to this mischief,” he added.
In defence of Pastor Adefarasin, some social media users have speculated that the object he was holding might have been a taser, not a firearm.

June 8, 2025: Pastor Adefarasin Addresses His Church
During Sunday service on June 8, Pastor Adefarasin addressed the incident directly, saying he felt hurt by the situation and suggesting that the video was posted for financial gain.
“The enticement of the enemy is always the love of money at the root of all evil,” he said. “What we have had to witness was clickbaiters just looking for more money. I probably wasn’t even their target. Their target was to make more money.”
He went on to deny pointing a firearm at anyone: “I was falsely accused of bearing a firearm at an aggressive content creator who came within personal distance. The only thing separating me and him was about maybe three-quarters of a meter and a glass…I pointed no firearm at anybody.”
However, the backlash only intensified. Many argued that the video showed the creator at a reasonable distance, while Pastor Adefarasin appeared to be the aggressor.
“So in that video we all watched, it is that boy that was aggressive? He came in close proximity? That same video we all watched?” actor and comedian Mr Macaroni, posted on X.
June 8, 2025: YL TheCarGuy Responds
In a live session with media personality Daddy Freeze, YL TheCarGuy clarified that he had not specifically targeted Pastor Adefarasin. He said he had gone to the location near Ikoyi Roundabout to film someone who had told him they’d be driving by.
After filming that person’s car, he decided to stay and capture more content. “I planned to film 10 to 15 Range Rovers,” he explained.
He said Pastor Adefarasin’s car was simply the first to appear. “I didn’t even want to film the car… I didn’t even know the person that was inside, to be very honest,” he said, reiterating that he didn’t move close to the car.
According to YL, when the pastor pulled over, he initially felt excited because he thought the driver wanted to “acknowledge me.”
June 17, 2025: The Police Get Involved
More than a week after the video first surfaced, the Lagos State Police finally stepped in. In a statement posted on Instagram on Tuesday, June 17, the Lagos State Police Command confirmed that Pastor Adefarasin had voluntarily turned himself in at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.
“No one is above the law,” the statement said in part.
“Pastor Paul Adefarasin has turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja and is currently being interrogated by detectives who have commenced investigation on the case since a video surfaced online showing the pastor holding a gun-like object against another road user, while driving in an unregistered vehicle. The outcome of the investigation will be made public.”
June 17, 2025: Police Recover Stun Gun from Pastor Adefarasin
The police said in a statement that after an interrogation of the pastor, they had recovered a stun gun from him, which they added was the gun-like object seen in the viral video. They said that the pastor had been released on bail, but they would continue their investigation into the matter.
“What was recovered from him, the gun-like object seen in the viral video, is not a lethal weapon or firearm but a stun gun, which is a prohibited anti-riot equipment. The pastor has been granted bail while investigations continue into the case,” it posted on X.
