What would your #NairaLife look like if you did?

Vol 19 | 27-02-2023

Good morning. 🌞

I’m fascinated by civil servants, and I like talking to as many as I can find. My mum has been working for the government for about two decades, and it was from her I first learned that what civil servants don’t get in rapid income growth, they get in job security and credit and financing structures.

This is also true for the 36-year-old civil servant in today’s NairaLife. For the better part of the last 13 years, she’s had to constantly punch above her financial weight in pursuit of her basic and grand goals. Ultimately, what made the difference was largely connected to her career in the civil service.

Without further ado, let’s dive into this week’s stories.

In this letter:

#NairaLife: She’s a Civil Servant and her Investment Choice is Real Estate

The civil servant in this #Nairalife has worked for 18 years and her current gross salary is ₦684k. But she also owns real estate worth over ₦40m.
How did she do this while supporting a family? Years of little moments adding up, relationships and access to loans.

This is what her #NairaLife looks like

Dating in Lagos on an ₦80k Administrative Officer Income

Oge (33) met Ugo (31) on Twitter in 2021. Two years and 30+ love emails later, they’re engaged and planning their future together on a combined income of ₦280k.

An excerpt: “Since 2021, when he was earning ₦80k, till now that he earns ₦200k, he’s been transparent about how much money comes in, goes out, and how much he saves. He knows how much I earn and I save too. We’re both part of an ajo. We save ₦30k each, and I try to save up to ₦40k in some months.
