Have You Ever Lost Money To Football Betting? We Know Your Story

June 23, 2020

Sport betting companies came with a promise to reward football lovers for their love for the game. It was simple — you only need to predict results to double or triple your money. What could go wrong?

A lot, fam, a lot.

This is why everyone who has ever lost money to these betting platforms will find this relatable. For the newbies, it might trigger a PTSD episode, but for the OGs, it’s just one of those things.

It’s an easy fixture weekend, and you think it’s your payday

It seems like the sport betting companies are about to have a bad day. All the fixtures seem easy; The big clubs are playing the rather small clubs. There are a few tricky fixtures here and there, but there is only so much that can go wrong.

You excitedly add matches to your bet slip

You select your games with the confidence of a Nigerian politician. You go over them again and again, and your selection appears to be infallible. Massive payout coming straight at you.

Then you start to monitor the live scores for every match

For every gambler, the existence of flashscore and livescore is the best thing since sliced bread. You go back and forth, brimming with excitement as everything is going according to plan.

The early games turned out green, but now, your excitement has given in to nervousness.

The early kick-offs ended up in your favour. However, you can’t control your raging heartbeat anymore. You have something to lose now. You suspect that this is when everything is likely to go wrong, especially since the last match that will unlock your winnings has Arsenal in it.

You try to take off your mind off it and check the results when the match has ended

As a defence mechanism, you shut your mind off it. You will just check when it’s over. A heart attack is not your portion in Jesus’s name.

When you hear the screams of goal from the viewing centre close to your house

This means only two things; you’re about to break off into a jubilatory dance or go off on an emotional rollercoaster. You grab your phone to confirm and you see it; Arsenal has conceded a damning goal in the last minute. That’s it; it’s over. You lost.

You think of everything you could have done with the money you staked with

Now that your “eyes have cleared”, you wonder why you do this to yourself. That 1k could have been enough for two meals, but now it’s gone. Poof!

You wonder how those people who win millions with 100 Naira do it

Audio money. LOL.

And you begin to wonder why football even came back

You didn’t have to deal with this when the leagues were suspended

But you are not about to give up

They got you this time, but you won’t give up until you recover everything you lost. The hustle is real, but we move!
