As you grow older, you begin to realise how much fun growing up was, even if it didn’t seem so at the time. We all had different experiences, but there were some average Nigerian shared with others. This is a list of some of them.

When the moneybag relative came to visit

Even though you didn’t really know the true value of money at the time, you knew it was something you needed to hold on to. So, you were always excited to see the relative that usually “dropped something for boys”. You were rich and truly happy for a few moments until your parents took it from you.

When your lesson teacher didn’t make an appointment

The bliss! Especially if you hadn’t done your assignment. What was better than more free time?  Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

When you managed to take a piece of meat from the pot and replaced without making a noise

This confirmed one thing — that you were getting good at it. And seeing that there wasn’t a lot of things you needed to be good at, this was very major.

When your parents actually fulfiled a promise

There were only a few things that could beat the happiness that comes when your parents actually did something that they promised to do. It usually didn’t happen, but it banged every time it did.

When you moved from using pencils to pens in school

To everyone, it was the first signs of taking responsibility. Also, they didn’t need sharpeners or blades to work.

When you got to the senior class and started wearing trousers and long-sleeved shirts

The induction into big boys league. Pretty much everyone looked forward to this.

Every time your parents allowed you to visit your grandparents

It meant one thing — you were about to be spoilt with food.
