Rena Wakama is a former professional basketball player and current head coach of the Nigeria Senior Women’s Basketball Team, D’Tigress. She is recognised for her clear vision, sharp tactical thinking and ability to bring out the best in her players. Under her guidance, the team has remained a dominant force in African basketball.
She is being honoured for coaching D’Tigress to their 5th consecutive AfroBasket title. Her tenure has further solidified the team’s place as the most successful side in African women’s basketball.
