Akinola Davies Jr and Wale Davies (one half of the acclaimed rap duo, Show Dem Camp) are brothers who approach filmmaking with a shared instinct for visual depth and emotional clarity. Their 2020 short film, Lizard, won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance 2021 and earned a BAFTA nomination for ‘Best British Short Film.’
They are being honoured for their acclaimed debut feature, My Father’s Shadow, which Akinola directed and Wale co-wrote. It became the first Nigerian film to compete at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, earning a Caméra d’Or Special Mention. It also became the first Nigerian film selected as the U.K.’s official submission for ‘Best International Feature Film’ at the Oscars.
