• The Nigerian Men of 90 Day Fiancé

Looking for love… and maybe a green card

On 90 Day Fiancé, Americans with way too much time on their hands travel the world to marry people they mostly met online. Whenever Nigerians show up, it gets interesting.

We rounded up the love stories of Nigerian couples on the show and where they are now.

    Michael Ilesanmi & Angela Deem

Michael became the first Nigerian cast member of in 2018, alongside Angela, a 52-year-old American grandma he met on Facebook.

Within months, Angela flew to Lagos and proposed. Naturally, their story became one of the most chaotic in 90 Day Fiancé history.

    Was peace ever an option?

Angela’s jealousy was practically a cast member on the show.

She once smashed a cake into Michael’s face for taking her to a restaurant he’d visited with another woman. Another time, she vandalised his car after discovering he’d downloaded Instagram, even though she’d already banned him from social media.

    Poor Michael.

They even attempted to have a child before Angela abandoned IVF for cosmetic surgery.

She returned to the reunion season with her new body, then flashed her boobs mid-argument with Michael, who just stared into the void like:

After nearly four years of visa denials, Michael defeated his village people and moved to the US in 2023. But living together only escalated the madness. In early 2024, Angela went live, claiming Michael was missing. He’d simply run away during a fight. A few days ago, he announced their divorce is now final.

    Usman Umar & Lisa Hamme

Season 4 introduced Usman Umar, a Kaduna-based rapper also known as “Sojaboy”, and Lisa Hamme, an American woman he met online.

Their biggest issue was Uman’s family disapproving of the insane age gap and Lisa’s culture

Is love in the room with us?

As if the problems with Usman’s family weren’t enough, they were always fighting because Lisa was suspicious of his female fans.

We couldn’t even blame her. This man made a song for her, then cast another woman as the star:

The couple got married, but before Usman’s spousal visa could be approved, Lisa filed for divorce less than a year later, accusing him of cheating and scamming her.

Usman Umar (AGAIN) & Kimberly Menzies

Usman didn’t give up after his first mission failed. He returned to the show with Kimberly, a 50-year-old fan who fell for him during his relationship with Lisa and eventually slid into his DMs.

She later travelled across the world to meet him while he was filming a music video.

    Can you buy love?

Kimberly love-bombed Usman with expensive gifts, which he happily accepted, but the romance moved at a snail’s pace while we all suffered through her desperate seduction attempts.

Things got even messier when Kimberly discovered that Usman had also been involved with another American woman named Zara. The drama peaked when Kimberly threw a drink in his face.

They stayed together for a short while after that, but Kimberly eventually ended the relationship when she realised she was the one doing most of the work.

    Olulowo Shodipe & Narkyia Lathan

Narkyia, a 36-year-old single mum from Pennsylvania, met Lowo on a dating site for plus-sized women. At first, he presented himself as a wealthy Nigerian prince living in Alabama and a widower. LOL.

    A masterclass in catfishing

Of course, none of it was true. Lowo was actually in Vietnam, and his child’s mother was very much alive and still part of his life.

Surprisingly, the relationship didn’t end when she found out. Narkyia gave him a second chance. Lowo moved to the U.S., they got married, and welcomed their daughter in 2020. Need Lowo to share his soap plug with us.

    Rayne Fernandez’s & Chidi Ikpeamaeze

Season 7 introduced us to Rayne, a single mum from New Mexico who’d been in a five-year online relationship with Chidi. The two met on social media after Rayne sent him a friend request.

Rayne only discovered Chidi was blind later in their relationship after she sent him some spicy pictures and he didn’t react. When she finally found out, she was oddly happy about it, saying it worked for her since she also struggled with body insecurities. In hindsight, that probably should’ve been Chidi’s first warning sign.

When Rayne finally travelled to Nigeria to meet him in person, she clearly arrived expecting things to get physical. Instead, Chidi shut that down quickly because he’d taken a vow of celibacy until marriage. Rayne was devastated and accused him of leading her on in their chats, but eventually agreed to respect it.

Like many couples on the show, the family dynamics quickly got messy. Rayne and Chidi’s sister, Victoria, couldn’t see eye to eye. During a trip to the market, Rayne had a full meltdown after realising the chicken they were buying for dinner would be slaughtered on the spot ( which is ironic considering Rayne runs a chicken farm in the U.S. and eats chicken herself).

    Please, ask her well.

That moment pretty much kicked off her long-running issues with Victoria and set the tone for the rest of the trip.

A few days later, during dinner with Chidi’s family, Rayne accused him of being overly dependent on his sister and convinced herself that Victoria was sabotaging the relationship. Eventually, she moved out of the family home and into a hotel, expecting Chidi to follow her. When he didn’t, it became yet another problem.

By this point, Chidi was understandably exhausted. After Rayne became increasingly aggressive, attacked his sister, and accused him of using her for a visa, he finally ended the relationship. Not long after, Rayne returned to the U.S.

    Daniel Iwela & Lisa Rosenberger

The current season of Before the 90 Days features Daniel and Lisa. She flew to Nigeria to meet Daniel for the first time, and got engaged barely 10 minutes after arriving at the airport. Daniel is working hard AF for that visa.

    Aura for aura

One thing about this pair? They’ve both got enough skeletons in their cupboard to last a lifetime. Lisa hid that she’s been married FIVE TIMES and was still legally married to a woman during the trip. She also allegedly borrowed money to fund the trip while pretending she was rich.

They’re going scam-for-scam right now, and if Daniel marries her for a visa instead of love, it might be a fair game. As the season progresses, Lisa has slowly come clean, leaving Daniel visibly shaken. The latest episode ended on a cliffhanger after Lisa confessed she’s still married.

Will their relationship survive all the lies? We’ll just have to wait and see.
