  • Feminism has gotten a really really bad rep on Nigerian Twitter. I mean, you’d think with all the times it has been discussed on our timelines, people would have finally gotten the plot. Sadly, that still isn’t so.

    Case in point:

    *Sighs heavily*

Thankfully, we still have a number of people that totally get what the movement is about, and have refused to stop trying to enlighten others in their own way.

Here are 9 tweets that really do the social movement justice:

    1. Reducing Feminism to ‘domestic chores’ is extremely reductive.

    2. Feminism isn’t just about celebrating women who excelled against all odds, it’s also about improving those odds for others.

    https://twitter.com/TheLoulette/status/633372953862926337

    3. Feminism is in no way against meritocracy.

    4. Feminism, like all other social movements, should not be defined by their radicals.

    5. The medium used to speak up against inequality, should in no way delegitimize the message.

    https://twitter.com/duchesskk/status/624109812524167169

    6. THIS!!!

    https://twitter.com/MissIgho/status/629569112348454912

    7. Men, whether they are feminists or not, should never dictate what feminism should mean to women.

    8. Feminism isn’t about women wanting to be like men, it’s about everyone being given the same opportunities regardless of gender.

    9. Feminism is NOT about man-bashing.
