There’s so much new music being released that it’s hard for even the most loyal fans to wade through the trash to find the gems. That’s why we’ve created #BumpThis – a Friday series that features new songs, by and featuring Nigerians, that you absolutely need to hear.
Fresh L — “Head Dey” ft. Dremo
With a solid EP and a few modest hits, Fresh L — one-third of DRB Lasgidi — had a pretty eventful 2018, both as a solo artist and a member of the pioneering group. Now, he’s back with his first single of the year, the Dremo-assisted “Head Dey”.
While Fresh L kills the opening verse, finding inventive ways to issue out standard-issue hip-hop brags, it’s Dremo who impresses the most. Handling the hook and the closing verse, the DMW star uses the track to remind everyone just how solid a rapper he is.
Dice Ailes — “Ginika”
It’s downright criminal that the versatile Dice Ailes isn’t already a much bigger star. He rarely ever falters on a track, whether he’s going solo or merely supporting someone else, and the latest proof of this is his catchy new single: “Ginika”
Produced by Kel P, “Ginika” finds Dice obsessing over the size of a woman’s ass. Sure, it’s not the most thematically original and the cover art is in very poor taste, but the song itself excels thanks to great production work and Dice’s confident performance.
