Many people might not be aware but there are ways to carry out transfers to multiple people without sweating. Which is why we asked 6 Nigerians to tell us about their struggles with bulk payments and platforms to simply the process..

Jumoke, 30

So far, I have been fairly impressed with my bank’s bulk transaction service. I didn’t even know there was such a thing, until someone told me about it. It’s been very useful in my business. As a provision store owner, I deal with a lot of suppliers and it’s not easy trying to transfer to them one by one. Although, it will not be a bad idea to have other options. You know how things can get; network wahala, app glitches here and there especially when you’re in a hurry and customers are waiting.

Alvin, 26

I currently use my bank’s app to make group payments when I have to, which is frustrating because I have to transfer funds to each person separately because my bank doesn’t have a group transfer option. Honestly, there’s nothing tying me to my bank’s app, and if I find an app that does bulk payments smoothly, I’ll port immediately. I didn’t come to this life to suffer.

Jerry, 22

Right now, there’s nothing in particular that I’m dissatisfied with when it comes to the payment platforms I use. Once in a while, there are glitches and money gets stuck in the air for few hours, but otherwise, it’s smooth. Oh, there’s one: they made a recent update where I can’t transact more than 1 million Naira in a day. So I usually need to use other banks to complete the transaction one at a time. I haven’t heard of a way to carry out bulk transactions to people besides crypto.

Esther, 23

In a day, I make transfers at least thrice. It’s either I’m buying food, something comes up that I need to pay for or or I need to send someone money asap. It would make my life a lot easier to be able to do all these at a go, because I’m really tired of making single transfers. It’s so easy to even forget to make them when there are a million other things calling for my attention. I’m not sure there’s a bank that offers this bulk service, but if I find one, I’d like to open an account with them.

Bassey, 24

I haven’t really considered the possibility of using my network provider to make payments to different people at once. Although, I do know a bank app that has this feature. I have also seen someone use it to make payments to me and a couple of other people. We all wrote out account numbers on a sheet and the lady did it at once on the spot. Others did not receive theirs until much later, but we saw it I think, later in the day.

Ugo, 27

Anything that has to with going to banks physically stresses me out, especially when it comes to sending huge sums of money. Which is why I stick to my bank app jeje. It’s just that sometimes, like the end of last month (August), it strikes me just how far we still have to go with digital banking in Nigeria. So, month ended and I was disbursing pay to some writers who work with me and I found myself wishing I could do it all at once. Like why do I have to send to A, B, and C separately? Also, what if I don’t have access to my device and there a several urgent payments I need to make? I’m currently looking for platforms that offer this feature because I believe there has to be another way.

Imagine being able to make payments to two or more people at once via your network provider…
