If you have to work in this country, chances are that almost every day counts as a bad day at work. This is not only a factor of work but as a result of this nation itself. However, there are some days that stand out in the world of 9-5.

These are days that are from the devil and are out to get you. What do you do when you have to work for the man yet you don’t feel up to it?

Well, these tips may not solve everything but they may make the day a lot less heavy.

1) Listen to music:

Music has a way of improving mood. Try to listen to some of your favourite songs with really good earphones. Especially songs attached with memories of a better time. This will transport you to a better place than you currently are.

2) Take a walk:

Sometimes, all you need is a reminder that work isn’t the beginning and end of life. A walk around seeing how casual life is can help clear your head and calm you down. You need to get away from the boiling point that is putting pressure on you.

3) Watch your favourite videos on Youtube:

Nothing better than watching clips of some of your favourite shows or music videos to help you escape for a bit. If you take a 10-minute break from work, nobody will die.

4) Eat your favourite food:

Good food can make a seemingly bad day a lot bearable. It can improve your general outlook at things.

5) Self-affirmation:

From “mafo” to “I am enough” to “it’s just a bad day, not a bad life” in front of the mirror in the bathroom at work can be a mood booster. Try to remind yourself regularly that you are enough. In addition, try to recall past triumphs that you had to overcome to get to where you currently are.

6) Call someone you love:

Talking to someone you love and trust and hearing their voice can significantly improve your day. Their re-assurance, belief and warmth can take your day from zero to hundred.

7) De-clutter your desk:

Sometimes, something as little as re-arranging your desk can make you feel like not all things are beyond your control. Work can be very disorienting and things seem like they are spiralling out of your control, this is a way of taking back some of that control.

8) If all fails, ask for time-off:

Sometimes, you are burnt out and the job doesn’t align with the plans for your life or doesn’t give you much joy. If you can ask for time off away from the noise to reassess and regroup, that may help long term.
