A Photographer Visualized Yoruba Deities And It’s Actually Pretty Dope

February 13, 2017
In 2014, Atlanta-based photographer and artist, James C. Lewis, created and exhibited these visual representations of what Yoruba deities might look like. His purpose was to bring the African gods to life in the minds of people globally and to inspire black people.

2. Oya should represent us at Miss World, really

3. This Orunmila has dyed his hair and it’s beautiful

4. Olorun’s neck piece is more fancy than my entire collection

5. Mama the mama!

6. If this god asked me out, I wouldn’t think twice

7. But where was he when our tomatoes were rotting away?

8. Speaking of the devil

9. Who else is just knowing about Oba?

10. He’s still on Beyonce’s matter

11. I just want to get my skin to be this shiny

12. This is the guy you talk to for revenge

13. African queen

14. Basically god of Fitfam

15. This is the god to make friends with so that Malaria will not be your portion

16. Meanwhile Nigerian boys will be running from color pink. SMH

17. Love his skin cut

18. Ori mi o! Na you be this?

19. Probably the most popular god

20. How would you pronounce this name?
