7 Cooking Hacks Every Nigerian Knows

June 20, 2020

Nigerians are skilled when it comes to kitchen matters. From improvising cooking techniques to creating one that is unique to us alone, this post shows all the way we have hacked this cooking thing.

1. Pouring rice into the water without waiting for it to boil first.

Both of them will boil together.

2. Adding potash (koun) to beans so it can boil faster.

This is one thing every Nigerian student swears by. Saves more kerosene and gas, both of which are too precious to waste on beans.

3. Turning the remaining stew in the pot to Jollof rice.

Are you even a Nigerian if you can’t do this?

4. Using the noodle seasoning to cook concotion rice.

Indomie Oriental and all other seasoning sachets that step in when stock cubes are unavailable.

5. Using blender for your ewedu.

Just boil the leaves until they are tender enough. Now invite your blender into the process and watch your life magically become stress-free. Tell us we are not the only ones doing this.

6. Adding stock to your soup for that special flavour.

You know, season the meat well and boil it. And when it’s done, you add the water to your soup or stew. Heavenly!

7. Using sand when an oven is unavailable.

Trying to bake without an oven? No worries. Sand can do the job well enough.

We stan you all.
